Bec's Story

What started as a simple high school hobby has grown into a lifelong passion for Bec. At just 18 years old, she stepped into the fitness industry with an eagerness to learn and help people, and now, 19 years later, that passion remains as strong as ever. In the early days, her training focused on running and endurance, but over time, she developed a deep love for strength training. She has competed at both the State and National levels in Powerlifting, Strongman, CrossFit, and Olympic Weightlifting, gaining valuable firsthand experience in training principles, programming, and the importance of safe and effective lifting techniques.

Through years of competing and coaching, Bec realized that strength training wasn’t just about lifting weights—it was about building confidence, resilience, and community. She saw how transformative proper training could be, not only for physical strength but also for mental toughness and overall well-being. It was this realization that led her to take a leap of faith and open The Cave in 2013.

But The Cave’s beginnings were humble. It started as a small home gym in a two-car garage, training just a handful of clients. With the sound of weights dropping and barbells clanking, it wasn’t long before the neighbors grew less enthusiastic about the setup. This challenge, however, became an opportunity. Instead of shutting down, Bec decided to go all in—moving into a larger space that would allow her to train more people, share her knowledge, and create a supportive environment for anyone looking to improve their strength and fitness.

The journey wasn’t easy. Running a gym required long hours, unwavering dedication, and a willingness to take risks. But with risk comes reward, and The Cave quickly became a place where people of all backgrounds—whether beginners or experienced athletes—could train in a welcoming and empowering space.

Fast forward to today, The Cave has grown into its biggest facility yet, complete with an incredible team of expert coaches and an in-house physiotherapist. While the business has evolved, the heart of The Cave remains the same—a place where people come not just to work out, but to challenge themselves, support each other, and achieve things they never thought possible.

Bec still leads from the front as head coach and program director, mentoring her team, designing training programs, and ensuring that every client experiences the same passion, support, and high-quality coaching that built The Cave from the ground up.

Running a small business comes with its challenges, but for Bec, seeing the dedication, progress, and sense of community that has formed within The Cave makes it all worth it. The friendships, the transformations, and the shared victories—big and small—are what drive her to keep pushing forward.

And the journey is far from over. Onwards and upwards!

Nate's Story

Nathan has a lifelong passion for Strength & Conditioning rehabilitation. He’s played professional Ice Hockey in the AIHL for the Melbourne Ice, Perth Thunder and Gaming Wanderers in the Germany Bayernliga and Junior A hockey in Canada.

Nathan has conservatively rehabilitated many clients and himself through injuries. He has personally sustained a fully torn right knee ACL, MCL and meniscus (treated conservatively, back to ice hockey in 3 months), shoulder rotator cuff tears and fractures, fractured wrist and collarbone requiring multiple surgeries and successfully rehabbed himself back to full contact ice hockey in 1 year. Conservatively treated right shoulder advanced osteoarthritis, torn rotator cuff and multiple labral tears, is back to advance ring callisthenics training without any issues.

Once COVID progressed to a pandemic, Nathan relocated to rural Victoria. There, he worked for eight months in a long-term care facility treating those most vulnerable to the disease as the primary physiotherapist. Strength and conditioning principles were directly applied to this population as a major part of their rehabilitation, and many of the residents regained their mobility after years of being immobile. This valuable experience helped demonstrate the effectiveness of Nate’s approach to rehabilitation, setting clear performance outcomes for each stage of rehab and utilising progressive overload to make a real difference in long-term ability.

In December of 2018 Nate met Bec on a holiday in Bali, in December 2020 he made the move to Mandurah to open up his own clinic inside the Cave Strength and Conditioning gym and in 2024 the Cave officially became the Cave Strength and Rehabilitation.

In June. 2023, Nathan sustained a spinal cord injury + emergency double laminectomy to decompress the spinal cord, leaving him paralysed, a poor prognosis of walking and many life threatening complications. He had a major back operation and spent a month in St Charles Gairdner hospital post op and 2 months in Fiona Stanley hospital spinal unit relearning to walk and be independent despite being told it might not be realistic. After being discharged from Fiona Stanley Nate spent the next 6 months strength rehabilitating himself before returning to work. He is now lifting weights, running and cycling with minimal issues.

With 14 years of experience as a physiotherapist, Nathan has worked in diverse environments, from refugee rehabilitation centers to large-scale mining operations across Australia. His hands-on experience treating work-related and sports injuries, combined with his deep understanding of progressive strength rehab, allows him to design highly effective, personalized rehabilitation plans. He believes in a structured, 6-12 week progressive approach to recovery, ensuring that each client not only regains function but also builds long-term strength and resilience. Nathan’s journey has given him a unique ability to empathize with his clients, guiding them through setbacks with firsthand understanding.

Now, as the Director of Physiotherapy at The Cave Strength and Rehabilitation, Nate is dedicated to mentoring his practitioners and helping create a clinic that incorporates strength training into rehabilitation to help others overcome their injuries and return to the activities they love—stronger than ever.
